The Rest of the Story…

 Continued from yesterday!

We found out a little more about Evelyn as the day went on…

I was so relieved to learn that Evelyn was very loved.  As it turns out the neighbors loved her. One kept up her yard when she couldn’t. As we packed away the rest of the house we’d found stacks of get well cards with loving messages written inside. Some had directions for cooking dinners that must have been brought over when she was too sick to cook for herself.

Her half sister, Joan, a sweet tiny lady in her sixty’s, came to the house. She wanted to apologize for the mess that was left in the house. It seems because she was only the half sister she wasn’t allowed to be involved in the settling of Evelyn’s estate. (Evelyn didn’t have a will and her only “blood” relative got control of everything.) Joan, was close to her (half) sister. Before she got sick, Evelyn planned on taking turns with Joan, keeping Joan’s new granddaughter 3 days a week. There were tears in Joan’s eyes as she talked about Evelyn. She went through the house tenderly touching Evelyn’s things. We urged her to take anything she wanted.

She took the new red dress and the Christmas cards. Maybe she’ll wear the dress to a Christmas party and mail out Evelyn’s cards in December…
